Garbage Pick Up Map

The Town provides weekly pick up of regular household waste through contract. Residents must have garbage curbside in a metal or plastic container with lid before 7 AM on the scheduled day of pick up. Plastic bags are only permitted for the collection of grass trimmings or leaves. No more than five containers will be collected from one household. Some residents on small lanes may have designated nearby areas where trash will be collected. Normally, trash is collected on normal schedule on holidays except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If these holidays fall on your normal pick up day, information will be provided by the cable TV public announcement channel (channel 9) and/or the local newspaper concerning pick up date.

Residents with bulk trash items which cannot be disposed through curbside collections or at the Recycling Center may wish to use the Town's bulk trash service. The Town's policy governing bulk trash collection provides for the collection of brush. appliances and furniture. Also, residents may dispose of mostly every other type of trash during the Spring (May) and Fall (September) cleanup collection. Citizens wishing to use this service must contact the Town at least 48 hours in advance of the scheduled pick up.

Brush will be collected quarterly, first Thursday of January, April, July, and October, with the quantity of brush collected at each household being limited to what would fill a full size pickup truck. Grass clippings will only be collected during the Spring and Fall cleanups. Appliances and furniture will be collected on the first Thursday of every month, limited to two items per household. Carpet and rug remnants will be considered as "other" trash and collected under the Spring and Fall cleanup.

All other bulk trash will be collected on the first and third Thursday of May and September, limited to a pickup truck load quantity.

The Town will not pick up fuel tanks, paint containers, tires, batteries, or otherwise hazardous materials, or construction scraps.

The Town provides a recycling center on Deep Hole Road to receive household trash from 8 AM to 4 PM seven days a week. You may recycle glass and plastic at this location. Cardboard recycling containers are also located at this site. The cardboard must be broken down flat before placing in the container.

The Accomack County Landfill is located on Greta Road in Atlantic, Virginia to receive items not collected by the Town or during times when the Town is not picking up bulk items.
